Happy COVID Graduation
I’m Sorry, and it Will Be Okay!
It’s the third time today that the sound of emergency vehicles permeates the air. This time of year is often a time of celebration. Sunshine, proms, graduations, and summer breaks are on everyone’s mind.
As a parent, it can be hard not to think about statistics. Each year, approximately 1,000 children under 21 die in preventable tragedies around prom and high school graduations, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
As the sirens in the distance dissipate, I receive a phone alert. Two Texas teens in the Corpus Christi Independent School District have died, and two more were left injured following a high school graduation rehearsal. The police suspect speed was a factor, but the incident is still under investigation.
Not Being Negative about Being COVID Positive
I have been COVID positive since the day before my daughter’s High School graduation. Unable to attend, I was grateful I could watch online. Perhaps I got a better seat out of the nearly 8,000 attendees.
